kimi's Kreative Homework #54

Postby kimi_boo on Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:34 am

Hi everyone :P

As always this assignment is open to EVERYONE who is reading the forum.
Our lesson never end so if you find this late, please feel free to add your image.

Remember.... if you see an image that you like, please leave a comment for your fellow students.
Everyone likes a pat on the back.

We had so many participate last week, I need to take a moment and say Thank You!
There is no right or wrong process here. The point of the creative homework is... to be Kreative!!
Just Jump in and Have Fun!! :biggrin:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week we are going to work on taking our flat image and giving it more of a 3D effect.
The perfect image will have a front, middle and back. So I have been using this as a first step.
Find an image that has a focal point. A person, flower, etc.
Use your regular lasso tool and make a loose selection around your focal point.
You want to use a pretty heavy feather. On a full size image I use 125 - 150.
After your selection hit Ctrl, Shift, I to invert your selection.
Now hit Ctrl J to put your selection on it's own layer.
Change your blend mode to multiply.
Adjust your opacity.
Do you see how it changed from just a flat image? :P
Here I used it on Holly's image. Can you see what I am talking about?
She seems to come out of the image now instead of it just being a flat picture.
On the after image... your eyes immediately go straight to her face.
Another pretty darned good one, Kimi
For some reason, I always seem to forget about feather when making selections.
This is what I started with
This is what I ended up with
HW#54 Focal Point.jpg
As you say, the lighter the background, the more dramatic the effect.
well I don't mean to be the HW thread hog but I tried again. I see a lot of saturation happening, not sure if the subject jumps off the frame but both tries I think my images looked better in the end.
Angela.. on Holly's I duplicated my layer to get a darker effect. But on some images it comes out too dark and I have to reduce the opacity of the layer. I guess it just depends on the image.
I like it because multiply almost has a burned look to it. :P
The point is to make your subject the focal point of the image. Your eyes go to the lightest part of the image. So darkening everything but your focal point works.
The background was multiplied (reduced opacity)after normal processing (levels). A blue sky was added, & the barn was lightened. Click on image to see before (animated). Thanks, Kimi!
