My initial version of "new crop" was pretty lame; anticipating a future crop was the best I could do. I realized tonight, eating dessert after supper, we have actually made a harvest! And, a lot more will keep coming over the summer.

Anybody from the Midwest will immediately know what this is. Don't know where else it grows. I never heard of it as a kid in Alabama ... don't know if that's because it doesn't grow in the South or because my Mother had no interest in it.

PS - we had it with vanilla ice cream

Now I am jealous!!! I love rhubarb. It has to have freezing temps in the winter so it can't be grown in the south. Of course, rhubarb is only good hot or cold as sauce or pie...even mixed with strawberries.

I do buy it frozen here.

Rusty - yum!

I took several pictures of ducks flying that I thought were OK until I opened them in PSE and saw how low-res they looked. Birds are very challenging to photograph well! So instead of detail, I offer the silhouette of a raptor. I couldn't figure out if the bird was a hawk or an osprey... hawk I think. To a birder I'm sure it would be obvious, like the difference between a sparrow and a robin.

Courtney, because of the thick neck and wide, stubby tail, I'll put my money on one of several kinds of hawks found in Alberta. But, osprey has a similar tail and neck ... I'm still going with hawk.

I now have two left to go...

Thought I had a good left/right photo but turns out it isn't as clear as I'd like. Maybe because I was about 50 ft away and it was raining. I'm going with it anyway.

And then there's my feline (taken before the rain started).

Flight, and from the looks of it the man may be surprised by a rear attack. The bird is a 'laughing gull', common around the gulf coast.

Good catch to get the gull in flight so close!

I've always liked the song of the red winged black bird (when it's not trying to scare me away from its territory). So this is my entry for music/tune. If you'd like to hear this bird's song, go here: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=25

Would Wild Bill Hickok's headstone be a landmark or historical?
